IDPA Has Come to Nenameseck!

Sign-in: 8–8:45am
Safety Meeting: 8:45am
Match Start: 9:00am
Match Fee: $15 ($10 for Nenameseck members)
*Eye and ear protection are mandatory for all attendees.

We run a cold range: firearms can be handled at the safety table only. No ammunition is allowed at the safety table. If you arrive with a carry gun, it is required that you ask a safety officer to supervise clearing the weapon. (Please do the same if you wish to load when leaving the match.)

What is an IDPA match?

The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is the governing body of a shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters. It was founded in 1996 as a response to the desires of shooters worldwide. The organization now boasts membership of more than 11,000, including members in 19 foreign countries.

What are the rules, equipment and cost?

Rules and equipment requirements can be found at the official IDPA website at http://www.idpa.com. After the match, all shooters scores are totaled and posted to this website. As a result, you can watch your times improve as you hone your skills. While we encourage participants to join IDPA, membership in that organization is not required to participate in our matches. The scores of non-IDPA members are treated as "unofficial" scores and are posted separately from the "official" scores for the match.

What's the course like at an IDPA match?

Each match will consist of three to four stages. What makes it interesting is that each stage is a different scenario and the scenarios are never the same from match to match. For example, one stage may have you move through a course neutralizing bad guys without hitting any hostages while another could have you shooting targets from a simulated automobile in a low-light setting.

How am I scored?

Each IDPA shooter is timed as they go through the course. The safety officer uses a timing device that tracks the total time for each shooter to 100th of a second. The device is triggered by the sound of a round being fired, so when the last shot is fired, the total time is read and recorded. Targets are scored as indicated in the picture. A center of mass hit adds no additional time, however, as you move away from the center of mass, penalty time is added to your time for that stage. At the end of the shoot, all times are added together for a total time for each shooter.

How can I participate or get more information?

If you think you would like to participate or just take a first hand look at how an IDPA match works, we would love to meet you and show you around at the next scheduled match. If you have any questions or need additional information, you can contact Norm at (413) 967-3797 or by email at or Rick at (978) 604-4440 or by e-mail at . Please check the calendar of events for dates and times and directions to the club.
