NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Course Description:
Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is approved by the Massachusetts State Police and satisfies Massachusetts Law to apply for a License to Carry Firearms (LTC) or a Firearms Identification Card (FID). Dates/Times:
Classed are normally held every month on the second Sunday. The class starts at 8 AM and is normally completed by 4:30 PM. Check our calendar of events for dates.

Class Size:
Limited to a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8 students.

Student Identification:
You must bring a form of identification that is currently active and valid and present it to the instructor before class begins. Identification must have a photo of you and must be issued by a state or federal agency. Typical IDs are: a Drivers License, a U. S. Passport, a Department of Defense (DOD) employee ID, a State or Federal employee ID, etc. No exceptions.

Firearms:
The instructor furnishes all firearms and ammunition needed for the course. If you want to bring your own firearm, you must notify the instructor before coming to the course. There is NO LIVE AMMUNITION allowed in the classroom. No exceptions.

Eye and Ear Protection:
Students are furnished with protective glasses and ear protection.

Breaks and Lunch:
A "break" is taken every 55 minutes during classroom instruction. At the lunch break, students are encouraged to pack their own food, as there are no establishments immediately nearby. No alcoholic beverages are permitted at any time during the course.

More Course Details:
This is an 8 hour course, and includes classroom and range time, learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules Brochure, Basic Practical Rocker and Flyer, Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet, Basic Pistol Student Exam, and Basic Pistol Course Certificate. Classes are conducted in our clubhouse classroom. It is a non-smoking environment with fully handicapped assessable bathrooms and public areas. Our heated, 25-yard, indoor range is attached to the clubhouse and allows for 8 shooters at once.
