What is Youth Archery?

The Nenameseck Youth Archery program is an instructional program designed to teach children the skills necessary for the sport of archery. The program will begin the first Saturday of the New Year and last for 10 weeks. There will be 2 classes each day one at 8:00am and the 2nd at 10:30am. Students range from age 8 and up and any skill level is invited to attend. The Youth Archery Program is open to all children and membership in the Nenameseck Sportsmen's Club is NOT required. Since this is an informal instructional program, students can participate at any point within the 10-week program. Individual help and instruction is provided on an as needed basis.

What type of equipment do I need?

Most students attending the archery session are using various types of compound bows, however there is no minimum requirement for equipment. Even if you don't presently own a bow now but would like to give archery a try, there are several donated bows available for you to use. You are encouraged to attend with whatever equipment you may have. A successful archer comes from the individual effort and not the hardware. The Youth Archery program will teach you good form and focus to make the most of whatever equipment you may own.

What is a typical archery session like?

Normally, the Youth Archery session run for about 2 1/2 hours. The first half hour is used to shoot a little and warm up. After this, students will be shooting at targets placed at various distances depending on age and skill level. The student's hits will be scored and recorded. These scoring records can then allow the individual student to monitor his or her own progress and improvement. In addition to the circular target shoots, the students are also able to try their skill on 3D targets at some of the class sessions. The end of the 10 week program is celebrated with an awards banquet where every student receives an award.

Is there any cost?

The cost of the program is $60 per student and should be paid on or before the first week. Families with multiple children can make arrangements to spread out the payments.
